I am so excited to have Lauryn at my blog to give us all her incredible advice, insight, tips, and tricks. This is going to be fun...xx
+ Introduce yourself to the Lindsi Lane community!

Hi Lindsi Lane’s community! I’m Lauryn Evarts Bosstick, the creator of The Skinny Confidential, a blog, a brand and podcast. Just to give you a quick intro to TSC...it’s your cheeky resource for all things skin, beauty, health & wellness. We talk about everything from vagina steaming to camel toes- nothing is off limits! More specifically skin care has been a huge theme since my double jaw surgery so you can expect a ton of tips on products & hacks that work, facial massage, & lymphatic drainage.

+ You’ve become a Beauty & Wellness staple brand for so many people on IG, how do you balance it all / keep up with it all?

Whatever comes up in the beauty & wellness world, whether it be a trend or new product, I’m on the pulse. That being said, I also really pay attention to trends that were popular 1000 years ago. I’m very interested in Chinese medicine, holistic practices, & other countries to see how people are doing things.

I try to get outside of myself & really become a practitioner & observer of what other people do & I’m genuinely interested, always. I look at TSC as a resource & it’s certainly not only my opinions. It’s about bringing other women & professionals & experts together to share their ideas & opinions. We always say, take what you like, & leave what you don’t. We are always going to provide all different sides of a topic or opinion & let the audience decide what’s right for them.

+ Your feed aesthetic is always on point, what are some of your top tips on branding yourself? Additionally, has a podcast helped build your brand?

The Brand Gap by Marty Neumeier is filled with so many tangible tips. Here are the sparknotes for you:

♡ A brand is not what you say it is, it’s what the consumer says it is. It’s the emotional reaction individuals feel when they see your brand. LISTEN to your audience.

♡ Branding has nothing to do with data, numbers, & excel sheets. Nothing at all. It’s about the people who experience the brand- not the numbers. Quit it with the data, look to the people.

♡ A typical design has four goals: to identify, inform, entertain, or persuade. However when it comes to branding, there is a fifth: to differentiate. THIS COMES DOWN TO STRATEGY. Why do you like Nike over other shoe companies? Because Nike has done an incredible job of differentiating its brand.

♡ Brands can become small tribes if they’re done right. YOUR VIBE ATTRACTS YOUR TRIBE. Community is key.

♡ It takes a village to build a brand- take ego out of it. Not one person can develop a powerful, lasting brand without a strong team of people around the brand’s message. Collaboration is incredibly important- & of course, engagement.

♡ Think in fresh ways- the fresher the better. Evolve quickly, think fresh.

♡ Pick a strong icon…& name. Criteria for a good name: distinctiveness, brevity, appropriateness, easy spelling & pronunciation, likability, extendibility, & protectability.

♡ The brand ( at times ) can be inconsistent- AS LONG as it does not abandon the defining attributes.

♡ Creativity is one of the most difficult parts of branding- but it’s MAGIC when it happens.

♡ THE BRAND SHOULD ALWAYS LEAD WITH authenticity.

♡ Ultimately it is design, not strategy, that people get excited for. Always INNOVATE…that’s where the brand becomes truly magical.

Also, getting micro with Instagram is another tip. Be sure to use fonts that will make people identify your brand by picking 3 staples colors & 3 staple fonts & stick to them.

Forget about what everyone else is doing & use your own formula. Utilize apps & the same features for your pictures instead of changing your aesthetic with the trends.

Using natural light is also very powerful. A well lit photo makes all the difference.

Most importantly, provide value. Know that your caption is 70% & use the caption to the best of your ability. I pay way more attention to my caption than the picture. It’s a way to communicate with your audience & that is THE MOST important thing when it comes to social media. You also need to make sure your message is effectively communicated- people want to hear a story & information that is easy to consume & digest.

As far as Instagram Stories, use the features, geotag, submit GIFs, engage & keep it fresh. If you’re interested in this, I wrote an in-depth post on the blog.

The podcast absolutely has helped build the brand. It’s a whole other facet. We laid the foundation with the blog, then a fitness ebook, the other mediums & then the podcast just made sense. I’ve made a living from oversharing & the podcast is a great extension of that. To have my husband on board too gives a fresh perspective & I think it’s been a great addition to the brand & a powerful medium. It also saves my audience time which makes me feel good.

+ What are the three beauty products you can’t live without?

Clarisonic facial massager -IT WORKS. I’ve said before, I really don’t like blogging about anything until I’ve tried it a lot. The integrity of The Skinny Confidential is important to me so I don’t want to half-ass recommend something that isn’t worth. This little vibrating machine is worth it. It’s not cheap- but I love it. This is the kind of investment I like. Some girls like their Louboutins, I like my facial massager. You can apply an organic, cold-pressed oil then go in little circles all over your face. It makes you feel tight, sculpted & younger.

Elemis cleansing balm - This cleansing balm smells like a spa & is amazing. It literally melts your makeup off. I’ve been using it for quite a while & it’s a great makeup remover & first cleanse in a “double-cleanse.” ( A double cleanse is when you use an oil or balm, like this one, to remove all your makeup. Then you use another cleanser to rinse it all away). You just put a nickel sized amount in your hand then massage it into your face. Take a damp, warm baby washcloth & press it into your face to absorb the balm & makeup. Then cleanse with your normal cleanser & get on with the other steps in your routine.

Oils - oils are amazing for the same reason. They’re the secret of youth, if you ask me. They’re so good for removing makeup, super hydrating & affordable. I’ve been known to order a side of olive oil from room service when traveling because I’m so obsessed with oils. Just remember to get organic, cold-pressed (my favorites are rosehip & grapeseed) & take it all the way to your tits. LOL. Just never forget your neck & chest.

+ What’s your best kept beauty secret? (something that not everyone knows about)

Very much into compression wear since having a baby. I’m wearing a lot of bands and compression wear and I think it’s helping my uterus go back to where it was. I know this subject is controversial but I feel it’s so good for circulation & just keeping things in place. It’s really helping with bloat, swelling & working with my lymphatic system. I feel like compression products have gotten a bad rep because of the waist-trainer craze, but this practice of using compression wear after birth has been practiced for 100s of years. It’s working for me so I wanted to share it. A lot of people don’t talk about what happens after pregnancy so I want to start that conversation.

+ You and I love to snack, what are your top three favorite new snacks?

I love hummus and grapes. A good organic garlicky hummus with grapes or mandarine slices with a good squeeze of lemon. Don’t judge until you try it! It’s so good.

I’m obsessed with cauliflower thins too. One cauliflower thin has 2 grams of carbs & 1 one gram of fiber WHICH MEANS there is only 1 net carb per thin!

They’re big, they taste like bread, they’re delicious with everything & only have 4 ingredients: cauliflower, nutritional yeast, egg & parmesan cheese. That means no artificial ingredients which I’m sure everyone is happy about. They’re gluten-free, low carb, low calorie, nut-free, soy-free, keto-friendly & non-GMO. So perfect to replace bread for an avocado toast or BLT with avocado oil mayo & some jalapeño.Yum.

And I always love some melon wrapped in prosciutto. There’s really nothing better. Just slice up some melon & wrap Italian prosciutto around it. Maybe add some feta or goat cheese & you’ll feel like you’re in the South of France. Throw in some chilled rosé & you’re good to go.

+ What’s your favorite healthy sweet treat that anyone can make at home?

Enjoy Life dark chocolate chips stuffed into raspberries have been my go-to for a long time. But honestly, instead of sweets I’m always satisfied from a TSC Skinny Marg. This is how I make them at home, and what I ask for when I’m out at a restaurant:

+ 1.5 ounce blanco tequila

+ 1 ounce of Cointreau ( use Triple Sec if this is unavail )

+ limes ( tons )

+ a little lemon

+ a speck of agave ( like a fucking SPECK ! )

+ option: 2 squeezes of a grapefruit or even pomegranates

+ half rim of salt, always

+ use a lime to rim the glass & then add salt to only half the rim. In a martini shaker add 3/4 fresh lime juice, one squeeze of lemon, then add Cointreau ( or Triple Sec ), & tequila.

rule of thumb: when making a cocktail, start with the cheapest ingredients first & finish with the most expensive last. Add ice to shaker ( you don’t want the ice to melt into your ingredients, so do this last ). Add ice to rimmed glass & shake and strain your cocktail over the ice. Garnish with a grapefruit slice or lime wheel.

A margarita always satisfies my sweet tooth.

+ You just had your first baby girl! What are you most scared about and why?

YES! I’m a mom now! Being scared never gets my energy, or that’s what I aim for at least. I practice stoicism daily & it heavily involves the concept that you can’t control things that happen, but you can control how you react to them.

When it came to the delivery, I didn’t read much or ask anyone’s opinion. I just wanted to go in with blinders on & experience it for myself. It was very much my own experience, so I didn’t want to consume a bunch of content on it.

Right now my biggest concern is postpartum depression. Mental illness runs in my family so I need to be very aware of it. But if I let myself get scared of things, I find it just takes over my energy.

+ What are you most excited about being a new mom?

I'm excited to have a little mini person who is half me & half my husband. It’s just so cool to have this hybrid of us. I’m excited to show her the world, I’m excited to teach her to be kind, & introduce her to animals & our dogs. I’m excited to see my husband be a father (I’ve known him since we were 12). And I’m definitely excited to get facial massages together.

+ Where can everyone find you? (website, social, etc.)
